Artificial Water Storage Measures at Gorumara

Gorumara-National-Park

Gorumara National Park is one of the best-known wildlife destinations of Dooars. At present, there are 50 Rhinos, almost 1600 Indian Gaur, around 400 sambars, elephants, leopards and nearly thousand other species at Gorumara. During winters and early summers most of the forest bound streams dry up and the only major source of water for Gorumara is the Murti River. Gorumara wildlife section is trying to quench the thirst of wild animals artificially. As per DFO of Gorumara wildlife section Ms Nisha Goswami, “In some places of Murti River water had been accumulated by man-made obstacles & in some places river’s depth had been increased for water storage”. Till rainy season comes, depending on these measures water shortage for wild animals at Gorumara National Park can be solved.
