Six of the 130 vultures of the Himalayan Griffon species in the Rajabhatkhawa Vulture Conservation and Breeding Centre will fly free in the open skies very soon. The six vultures are relocated to the release aviary centre of Buxa Tiger Reserve forest.

Satellite tags will be fixed in the body of two vultures for monitoring the movement of the birds.

Vultures were once the most abundant large bird of prey and nature’s scavengers across the world, including the Indian sub-continent. Today, they are one of the most endangered bird species.
