Forests Department has taken initiative to prevent forests from fire during the month of February & March. These months maximum, dry leaves fall from trees. Already fire watcher team has started their work at different forests of Jalpaiguri district. As per local people sometimes people throw cigarette or biri on dry leaves – which are the main cause of the fire. Fire effects a huge area of forest and insects which eventually affects the ecological balance of forest. Forest of Lataguri witnessed fire before,in this way. Under Jalpaiguri Wildlife Division there are seven ranges – Lataguri, Moraghat, Dalgao, Chalsa, Daina, Banarhat & Nathua. In all of these ranges, Fire Watcher team has been formed. Almost 20 teams, day & night is keeping an eye on the forest, each team comprises of 5 to 6 members. If needed the team may take help from Fire Brigade.
