Leopard rescued from Tea Estate of Dooars

The dead body of a female leopard was recovered from Baradighi Tea Estate on the fringes of Gorumara National Park by the forest officials during a regular patrol.

Locals gathered in large numbers to have a glimpse of the leopard. Locals believe there are more leopards in the tea garden and demanded to lay traps. The forest officials gave assent to be considerate about their demand.

In another incident, an adult male leopard was today netted at Moraghat Tea Estate at Binnaguri in Alipurduar district.

“For the past three weeks, a leopard had been straying into the garden. We had informed foresters that a leopard was on the prowl and they laid a trap and kept a goat as bait,” said Tulshi Mahali, a garden worker.

The leopard was rescued by forest officials and was taken to Nature Interpretation Centre at Lataguri for preliminary medical examination, subsequently, the leopard will be set free.
