Rhino Census to start at Gorumara

Coming 12th and 13th February 2019, Gorumara National Park will remain closed for the tourists for Rhino Census. The last census was conducted in 2015 & 53 rhinos were found at that time. In recent past rhinos were killed by poachers, some died naturally & at the same time there were some newborn, Forest Department expects there will be an increase in the number of rhinos now. For counting of rhinos, workers from the forest department, various NGO’s, trained elephant would be deployed. The Forest workers & members of NGO’s would be trained at Murti. On 12th & 13th February counting of rhinos would start from 6.00 am & along with rhinos if other animals are spotted, record of the same would also be kept.
