Presence of rhino pair in the Ramsai locality of Jalpaiguri district has created widespread hue and cry in the local mass. Ramai is located on the fringes of Gorumara National Park.

For the last one week, the rhino pair is crossing Jaldhaka River and entering into the locality. At times the pair can be seen standing tall in the middle of tea garden or at the paddy fields. The pair is in a mood to play hide and seek with the locals. The people of Ramsai are guarding the pair for the whole night. It is pertinent to mention in the month of December 2018 an adult male rhinoceros was found dead with its horn missing at the Gorumara National Park. Local people are afraid and are not venturing outside after nightfall other than some urgent work.

The Forest Department has taken stock of the situation. Captive elephants may also be deployed for the safe return of the pair to Gorumara National Park.
