Awareness to Stop Hunting during Holi

In Holi & Fagua Festival hunting of wildlife is an age-old practice amongst the forest villages. With the passage of time, this practice had decreased a lot.

Now the Forest Department has an initiative to stop this practice. So, an anti-poaching camp has been started at Buxa Tiger Reserve’s North Raidak Range. The anti-poaching camp will continue from 14th March till 31st March.

Forest workers along with local peoples representatives are visiting various forest villages & tea gardens to spread awareness amongst people to stop hunting. Madarihat & Salkumar’s Lalturam High School’s students are also spreading awareness amongst people to stop hunting.

Hunting decreased to a large extent at Jaldapara. Some of the areas have been identified as high alert zone. Along with forest workers, various NGO’S are participating in this awareness program. Students, local people are also participating in guarding of the forest so that unauthorised entry can be restricted.
