4th January 2021 – Two leopards and five people have been injured after a vehicle hits a leopard pair near Banarhat in Jalpaiguri district. One of the leopard has been rescued, while drone has been deployed to trace the female leopard.
On the eve of New Year, five persons all hailing from Coochbehar went for a trip to Jhalong-Bindu and other near by tourist spots. While they were returning home, around 11:30 pm two leopards abruptly appeared and the vehicle ramped and toppled on the side of the road. The incident took place near at NH 31C near Gendrapara Tea Garden.
Five people injured have been taken to Super Speciality Hospital Jalpaiguri, while the male leopard was taken to Nature Interpretation Centre Lataguri. Its condition is stable. Search of the female leopard is still going on.
