11th December 2019 – It took a toil on the forest department officials to rescue a one-year-old calf that accidentally fell into water tank Section-12 of the Bharnobari Tea Estate under Kalchini Block of Alipurduar district.

It is learnt that the calf came out from Buxa Tiger Reserve along with its mother and fell into the tank that stored rainwater.

The garden workers woke up early morning to the cries of the mother elephant at the water tank. Forest staff reached to the area with an earth mover and tried to cut the water tank and rescue the calf.

It took four hours to rescue the calf as the mother elephant chased the machine. Finally the tank was broken and both mother and the calf returned to Buxa Tiger Reserve.
