Jumbos Hit the Streets of Siliguri

25th July 2020– Three wild elephants strayed into Siliguri town from nearby Baikunthapur Forest in the wee hours of 23rd July reminded the residents when a jumbo went on a rampage in the town in broad daylight more than four years ago.

The trio crushed the bamboo barricades that marked COVID containment zones, dislodged the wall of a house before forest officials managed to push them back to the forest.

The jumbos went on a stroll in areas like Hakimpara, Sukanta Pally, Eastern Bypass and Baneswar More. Two of them were tusker and the third one was sub-adult.

It is learnt the trio was first spotted at Kholachand Fafri around 10:30 pm but were driven back by forest officials. Later, around 1:30 am they again stepped out of the Farbari Forest. The trio took a round of the town for 5-6 hours. No major damage was reported. Finally, they were chased back to the forest around 4:00 am.
