09th July 2020– Black Cat roaming in the jungles of Kabini fascinated the netizens a few days ago. Well, people of Mirik have reported sightings of a Black Panther pair near Thubro Tea Garden.
People have reported sightings of the rare animals in Hills in the past too. Fresh sightings come amid the COVID-19 pandemic and less human interference in the wild due to lockdown. It is learnt people of Lower Divison of Thubro Tea Garden sightings Black Cat pair for at least two months.
Recent sightings were some days ago. While the pair do not come near human settlements like other leopards but can be seen resting on rocks or walking among the tea bushes or on the hill slopes far away.
One of the residents of Thubro Tea Estate posted as video of a deer entering her garden. A popular Facebook page in the Hills had in 2019 posted a video of a black cat purportedly doing rounds in the Pandam Tea Estate in Pulbazaar Tea Estate in Darjeeling.
In 2016, trap cameras had clicked images of Black Panther in Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district, arguably the first in Dooars.
