Sikkim forbids International Tourists – No Nathu-La Permit to be Issued

6th March 2020In the wake of Corona Virus spread across India, Sikkim has stopped issuing the Inner Line Permit(ILP) to all foreign nationals with immediate effect. Also, no permit for Nathu-La will be issued.

In a letter to the Secretary Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Joint-Secretary of the Home Department has advised that in view of the rapid spread of Corona Virus, no ILP may be issued with effect from 5th March 2020. This includes nationals of Bhutan also.

It is learnt Sikkim Officials have camped at Rangpo Check-Post to keep a vigil on the tourists entering Sikkim. Two UK nationals were stopped at Rangpo. Around 50 Bangladeshis also had to return from Rangpo. Meanwhile, two tourists from Germany were detained at Phuentsholing as they were entering Sikkim from Bhutan.
