Kanchankanya Express stops to save the Elephant on tracks

The loco pilot and the assistant loco pilot had to apply emergency brakes to stop the down Kanchankanya Express after they noticed an elephant standing on the railway tracks in between Nagrakata and Chulsa station in Jalpaiguri district.

The incident took place at Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary. The train resumed journey once the elephant entered into the forest. The Alipurduar division of the N F Railway decided to reward the loco pilot, Mr Duryadhan Reddy, and assistant loco pilot, Mr D Dinkar.

Recently N F Railways conducted workshops on wildlife movement on rail tracks. Pilots, assistant loco pilots, trackmen and guards participated in the workshop. Forest officials train them and very encouraging results have come out.
