A leopard was hit by a vehicle on the Falakata-Birpara Highway in Alipurduar district. The leopard was lying adjacent to the road when the crowd gathered to have a glimpse of this elusive and shy animal.
A man named Gopal Chanda was busy taking photographs of the animal. Suddenly the animal sprung onto him. Luckily he escaped from the jaws of the animal.
Later, the forest staff reached the spot and rescued the animal and took it to South Khayerbari Tiger Centre, however, the animal succumbed to the injuries and died on the way.
